Statting the WotC Staffers?

Morrus

Well, that was fun

Or, more interestingly, some of the ex-WotC staffers. Or some of the other more 'vociferous' game design personalities who sniff around the net.

As Cold_Beer said in the chat, room a Celebrity Deathmatch between Monte "Unspeakable Horror" Cook vs. Ryan "Mr. Marketing" Dancey would be something cool to see.

So, what are the 3E stats for some of the more prominent figures in the gaming industry?

Going by the way he acted when he was the TSR net rep, I think Sean Reynolds would have to have some levels as a barbarian (for the rage ability).

Nice guy for most of the time, but every so often, he'd really really get angry...

I am tempted to say David Wise's alignment is Lawful Evil... It's one thing to protect company trademarks, but Wise seems a bit 'lawsuit-happy'.

I don't think Gary Gygax can be statted. Not yet. Deities and Demigods isn't out in another month or two...

Elaine Cunningham would be an elf. Most definitely.

Most game designers would have several levels of Loremaster. Most notably, Ed Greenwood, Steven Schend, Eric L. Boyd and Jeff Grubb. Grubb would also have maxed-out ranks in Knowledge (Planes).

Steve Miller would probably be a vampire. Hmm...

Good point here...:D

And for a few, shouldn't it wait until the "Epic Level Handbook" comes out?:D

Indeed. Monte Cook, for one. Ed Greenwood, too.

And I wouldn't feel comfortable statting Philip Athans without Tooth and Claw.

Since I don't know any of them personally*, I can't stat them per se, but I can offer some possibilities for SA's and SQ's:

Monte Cook:

Revamp Ire (Ex): Monte Cook can readdress a classic D&D module (i.e Temple of Elemental Evil) in such a way as to make it fresh, exciting, and yet nostalgic. Players who fail a Will (DC 25) save will actually enjoy themselves as their characters die (no save)--one after another.

Gary Gygax:

Grandfather Claws (Su): Gary Gygax can, at will, switch a rule from a later edition of D&D back to the original (AD&D) rule with respect to himself, and attacks made by and against him. This is almost always fatal to 3rd Edition creatures with very high armor classes.

Ryan Dancey:

OGgLe (Su): As a gaze attack, Ryan Dancey can claim an ability of any foe as a derivative work, and may use it himself as long as he cites the work as derivative and does not explain how he is able to use the experience points he gets for whupping your butt.

Bruce Cordell:

Psionics (Sp): At will, Bruce Cordell can sneak a psionic reference into any written or electronic document in which his name appe--HEY! HOW'D THIS GET IN HERE??!!?!

Ed Greenwood:

Resistance to Blades (Su): Ed Greenwood always fails his Shaving Throw when a slashing weapon is used near his face. (have you seen his beard?)

Eric Noah:

Pied Piper (Sp): By uttering the phrase "chat for a bit?" Eric Noah can summon 3d10 EN World Members to the #dnd3e IRC chatroom. The summoned members automatically return home when Eric leaves.

*I met Eric Noah a couple of times. He gets a +1 size bonus to his AC and base attack, as well as his Hide checks. ;)

Does anyone have a copy of the "Convention-Goer" Prestige Class that WotC put on their site some time ago? My searches have come up with nothing.

You guys are suck ups I'd probably make them all subtle variations of commoners with profession:game designer and knowledge: 3e.

I might give them all the special ability of negative charisma bonuses are treated as positive vs mewling fanboys.
