They are oftentimes not used in combat situations, and are generally used before combat, to prepare for certain situations, or lastly at a campsite as the party settles down for the night.</p><p> Steam-work Potions are used in conjunctions with a steam-work device called a Potion Heater. In order to gain their benefits, a Steam-work Potion must be heated for 3 rounds before being imbibed, and if not imbibed within 3 rounds after being removed from a Potion Heater then loose their potency, until reheated.</p><p> As other steam-work arcana, they have the advantage of costing only 80% of the GP and XP cost of a normal potion to create.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Steam-work Device:</p><p> Potion Heater</p><p> The potion-heater is a non-magical device that runs off of a steam engine, and must be calibrated before any startup to prepare it to properly heat a steam-work potion so that it will be able to heat it properly. However if the new potions are the same as the last potions heated in it, then there is no need to calibrate the device.</p><p> Calibration takes 1 minute, and requires a Craft (Steam-works) or Alchemy check vs. a DC of 10+ the highest level of the potion stored in the device. The Potion Heater has no effect on a regular potion. It takes 3 rounds for the engine in the device to heat properly, and then another 3 rounds to heat the potions properly.</p><p> Potion Heaters are Fine, Diminutive, or Tiny in size. A fine sized Potion Heater can accommodate 1 potion, a diminutive one can handle two potions, while a tiny sized one handles a total of three potions.</p><p> On a breakdown on a failed maintenance check, any potion stored in the Potion Heater is fouled and is destroyed.</p><p></p><p>Requirements:</p><p> Craft (Steam-works) Rank 9</p><p></p><p>Statistics:</p><p> Size Cost Maintenance </p><p> Fine 150 GP DC 06</p><p> Diminutive 300 GP DC 08</p><p> Tiny 450 GP DC 10</p><p></p><p></p><p>Steam-work Potion:</p><p> Though the brewer does not need to create a steam engine to brew the potion, she must know the heating and workings of a steam engine to successfully create the needed Potion Heater to utilize the potions.
