Not to sound too glib, but you would find the same types of shops as you would in a non-steampunk Victorian era city. Clothers, bootmakers, account houses, farrier, etc., would all be found. In addition, you might have a specialized shops, like gear makers, steam generator repair, a shop selling Babbage's Difference Engine, zeppelin parts shops, and so on.

Well in our Iron Kingdoms not so many blatant magic shops (but more than a few that hybrid steamtech with some magic, in our game part of the bullets used in our guns were made from a type of low level potion/magic, which meant anything anti magic could also effect the guns)

I found it's more fun if you turn the magic down and the tech up, we made firearms alot more common in our game, with swords as backups,

and potions are still good,
but ours tended to lean towards the mundane much more than other fantasy,
if you can make it clockwork instead of magic all the better, think gadget shop instead of magic shop, and the real magic, pokie little shops hidden away that tend to have only a few but constant customers,

there are printing press's so books are easy to come by, but many thing are still made by hand,

and anything you could imagine in a victorian era city,

This is for character history which he is a tinker, a magic user and a merchant just not what he would tinkering in and/or selling.

Well miners tended to work hard for poor pay, a dangerous job with gas and cave ins,
mostly considered unskilled cheap labour

unless it was a private mine, of something like gold etc

No, miners do not own shops. generally, miners are too buisy.. .you know, mining.

THat said, here's what happens to the typical ore AFTER ti's mined.

-Miners, in the employ of the mine owner mover the ore to the surface, where it is put into bulk transport: in a steampunk setting that means trains.

-the mine's owner Sells the ore by bulk to a refinery, or to a mill, or, if they happen to OWN a mill, they will refine their own raw ore into metal ingots suitable for sale.

-The refined ingots are loaded onto another bulk transport (train) and taken to various mills and plants where they are refined form their raw metal bar form into whatever they will be once sold (Horseshoes, gear, tablkes, chairs)

-THe finished products is taken to a store and sold there.

During the victorian era (which is where Steampunk is primarily set, Victorian / industrial revolution era.) Tycoons emerged. These were people who owned several, or all of the means of production. Andrew Canreigie is a prime example... he owned the mines, the mills, the railway, and the metal shops that made things. All together, he saved a fortune by making only final products. If he had only owned the mills, he would have to pay for the ore, and then pay agian to ship it out. because he owned almost everything, he had a monopoly.

Now, if you want my authoritative resource on steampunk, i reccomend Girl Genius

Ok Guys I think you actually helped. I could be an inventor of steampunk mining equipment, so inorder for me to sell these equipment I need to know some mining stuff (in victorian era) correct? Cause I need to have some connections to my tinkering, merchant and mining.
