Stomp Fear

What's the opposite of a "bump"?

A "stomp" maybe?

By this I mean replying to a thread on the page so that it moves above the other threads. This is not something vindictive, but I have noticed that I occasionally find that I have "stomp fear".

Here's how it goes:

There's a thread out there that I want to see replies on. Therefore, I want it to stay near the top. There are other threads that I want to reply to... but I fear replying to too many of them, because it will "stomp" the thread that I want to see replies on.

That's stomp fear.

I've never consciously felt this, but I'm not averse to digging past the first page for a thread I want. If a thread I'd like to see goes down too far I just bump it.

Edit: Good observation though. I would have never thought of this, and I like that term. "Stomp fear" yeah, cool

Yes, I know, I could bump, but it always seems a bit ... lame to bump a thread.

If it's someone else's thread, it seems like I just haven't got anything to say. (It does happen! Honest!)

And if it's MY thread, then it seems a bit too blatantly self-promotional.

Well, try to come up with something to say. I try to come up with either some comment or a question that will help promote discussion.

Well, I'm usually ticked off when no-one replies to a thread I posted or replied to. This also surfaces as kill-fear, as threads tend to die the instant I post to them....
