In this case, 6 squares are affected, but if you cast it on the diagonal, it is hard to choose the 6th square (the first 5 are relatively easy) affected. With the SEP, you can have 360 degree directional targeting and pick the 6 squares affected.</p><p></p><p>So the DM has to use his own judgment in the end, regardless of player arguments. I recommend the above adjudication, and will consider this in redesigning burning hands (including a statement like "Pick 6 squares of the grid that are affected that are at least mostly covered by the pattern.") It's not pretty, nor exact, but neither is movement in the 3E game. At least it is practical.</p></blockquote><p></p>
