[QUOTE="Ruin Explorer, post: 9703773, member: 18"] But that's not what happened, is it? At least not as explained. They just deprioritized it, and found a solution before they had to resort to trying something outright dangerous and risky - eating the food. So you cannot possibly fairly accuse the players in the example of "not being sensible". They were absolutely sensible. 1) They worked out what they thing they needed to by pass was - the plate. ✅ 2) They worked out that it was moved by weight. ✅ 3) They iterated non-dangerous/non-risky/non-resource-expensive solutions. ✅ 4) They hit a non-dangerous, resource-cheap (a single spell) solution, which prevented them having to try a risky solution. ✅ Overall that's a gold star approach to solving the puzzle. ⭐ As a DM you should be impressed that they came up with a safer, more sensible solution than the very "Leeroy Jenkins" approach you seem to have envisioned them taking. Your "not sensible" criticism here would only be legitimate if they let the puzzle stop them entirely, and just gave up rather than having someone try the food. But they didn't reach that point! They solved it before they had to resort to high-risk behaviour! That's a good thing. That's good play. That's sensible play. In fact, if any critique applies, it may be that they were too sensible, and not wild and rowdy enough. Like, no Mork Borg party would fail to eat the food, I think, but this wasn't Mork Borg.
