An archetype for my lycanthrope class Mutant Alters change shape; Replaces curse of lycanthropy, run with the pack. Some lycanthropes are not bound by the primal call of beast and blood, but instead warp their bodies into far more unnatural shapes. Whether by eldritch influence, magical experimentation, or ancient bloodlines tainted by things that should not be, these mutants walk a line between monstrosity and madness. While typical lycanthropes embody the strength of nature and the fury of beasts, mutants twist that gift into something stranger. They take on forms beyond mere animalistic transformation—aberrations of the flesh, nightmare-born predators, or even ancient draconic or fey avatars. But with such power comes instability, as their forms are more volatile and their connection to the traditional lycanthropic curse is severed. Mutant Change Shape (Su): A mutant’s change shape ability is more versatile but less stable than that of a traditional lycanthrope. Instead of selecting only animals or vermin, the mutant may choose a single creature of the following types as their base monster: aberration, animal, dragon (each age category counts as a separate creature), fey, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, ooze, plant, or vermin. All base monsters except vermin follow the beast shape progression of a normal lycanthrope. For example, a mutant with a base monster of a Spawn of Yog-Sothoth (aberration) gains abilities as per beast shape III at 7th level. At 8th level, while a normal lycanthrope’s change shape almost completely fully emulates the lycanthrope template, a mutant instead delays this full transformation for the most powerful creatures: if the selected base monster has a Challenge Rating higher than 8, the mutant does not gain the full change shape benefits until they reach a class level equal to the CR of the chosen base monster (though they may still use change shape at will starting at 8th level). This alters change shape and replaces curse of lycanthropy and run with the pack.
