I'm playing a Bard. No matter what I do, he'll end up knowing almost no 3rd level spells. At 10th level, he'll know 4. If I stayed with Bard until level 20, he'd end up knowing 5. So I'm not exactly giving up much in the 3rd level when I go to Sublime Chord at 11. And, ironically, I'll have two 4th level Bard spells after 10th, and then pick up both 4th and 5th level Sorcerer spells when I switch to Sublime Chord at 11th. I'll be light on 3rds and double stacked on 4ths. The PRC makes you a high level Sorcerer, but not a low level one. (He could learn Delayed Blast Fireball, but not plain old Fireball. As for the SM3... My character is Half Satyr, which means he has cloven hooves and horns. Recently he's been challenged, twice, and accused of being a demon. They wanted to know how he even entered the temple, and they weren't going to listen to any lies about him not being some sort of fiend. So he cast SM3, and called up a Celestial Hippogriff. They were floored that he could summon a Celestial creature at all, and frustrated when the "demon" hopped onto its back and made his escape. It was quite an exit, all things considered. So while the character doesn't count on that as a combat spell, its RP potential is wonderful.
