I went the route of straight Sorcerer with buff spells as well as multi classed Sorcerer/Barbarian/Dragon Disciple with buff spells. If I had it to do over again I would have gone Fighter instead of Barbarian but still came out with a very good character. Some suggestions: Go for the more long term buffs like Cats Grace, Mage Armor, etc. that will make you a more effective fighter and that you can cast once before you donn armor (and a spell failure check) and can forget about it until its about to run out. Other enhancements like haste, displacement, truestrike are good as well. Stay away from offensive spells because if you are buffed right, you will be an offensive spell (with no saving throws ;)). I wouldn't suggest going beyond light armor if you are going to cast in combat. Think of yourself as more of a Jedi than as Sauron (at the beginning of the LoTR movie). BTW Truestrike, when combined with Power Critical and a decent Power Attack is particularly nasty especially with burst weapons. :D
