D&D 5E Suggestions for beginner game of 5E

Astrosicebear

First Post
I am thinking of involving my wife, soon to be 6 year old son, and maybe my 20yr old stepson into a game.

My stepson has played through the Starter Set, and I think Id like to do something different anyways.

Suggestions on a great module to run? Doesnt have to be 5e specific, I can convert easily enough.

U1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh if you want something that feels like Scooby Doo meets D&D. Definitely different from the typical first adventure dungeon crawl but worth it if you can pull it off.

Be as random as possible - make a couple of rolls to determine a random encounter or 3 and see how they can be woven together.

I recommend Fey Sister's Fate by Goodman Games for 5th edition, I have run it as an intro adventure a couple times on roll20 and had a great time.

It is a wilderness crawl with some good role playing scenes with fey creatures and the main antagonists are not the standard goblins and kobolds, they are frog men.

It's kind of an off the wall suggestion, but a site called Dragonsfoot hosts dozens of fan created AD&D adventures in the classic style (more exploration heavy, lots of loose threads to tie into an existing campaign); the advantage here is that 1st edition AD&D seems to convert super-easily to 5E, so I've been told. Being free, you could peruse a few and see if any might match the style you seek. There are even adventures from old timers like Len Lakofka there, apparently (the guy who wrote modules L1 and L2 back in the 80s for TSR).
