Mittendien
On the northern front, there is an uneasy peace. As long as the giants in Falinus keep their word about returning all humans to Mittendien unharmed, the Kaiser has ordered no agression into former Dwarven lands. There are still large garrisons of troops in Marzen and Schwartzburg, and it is rumored that small sqauds of elite troops have been moved there from the designated palace guard in Dumeldein.
The army is also stockpiling all the alchemist's fire that can be acquired - its availability is low, and skilled alchemists are making a lucrative profit. Perhaps too lucrative - a shoddily constructed lab in the poorer sections of the capital explodes, consuming several buildings in the resulting fire. Several are killed and dozens are injured, and tensions among the poor run high for weeks among accusations that the fire control squads would have responded much faster in richer parts of the city.
A primary instigator seems to have emerged among the lower classes. Fritz Liebenwulf, a charismatic and outspoken worker, is often found reminding crowds of the imbalances between the rich and the poor. However, Fritz has not broken any laws, and none of his gatherings have turned violent, so the authorities find themselves unable to take any action against him.
