Summon Monster and Nature's Ally?

The Blue Elf

First Post
My friend thinks he is a game lawyer all the time he was trying to disrupt my fun, I was playing a Druid when I was trying cast summon nature's ally he said its was not the same as Summon Monster spell, he said I had to wait for a Dire Ape to run all the way to the location of were you summon the animal instead of coming through the portal like Summon Monsters, I had to wait a 7 rounds for it to come until I died when I needed help my friend was grinning the whole time saying his bull crap about the rules.I just wonder is he right?

He's full of dire ape pewp.

As a summoning spell, the critter appears just like Summon Monster. There's no need to nerf the SNA spells; they pretty much suck already compared to SM.

PHB, page 157
"Summoning: The spell instantly brings a creature or object to a place you designate. When the spell ends or is dispelled, a summoned creature is instantly sent back to where it came from, but a summoned object is not sent back unless the spell description specifically indicates this. A summoned creature also goes away if it is killed or dropped to 0 hit points. It is not really dead. It takes 24 hours for the creature to reform, during which time it can’t be summoned again. When the spell that summoned a creature ends and the creature disappears, all the spells it has cast end (if they haven’t already). A summoned creature cannot use any innate summoning abilities it may have, and it refuses to cast any spells or use any spell-like abilities that would cost it XP."

Page 260 clearly marks Summon Nature's Ally spells as "Summoning."

Was about to respond the same thing as Zhure, but not quite as eloquently. You got hosed. So next time you see your DM, dump him in tar and bury him in feathers.

My friend tends not read into the rules when I ask him to read the rules, but it seems he doesn't care to read them as much as I do when i try to explain to him and others no seems to beleive me also thank you very much Zhure.I'm going to have to try to tell everyone this if the DM doesn't beleive me I might just leave that group.

I find it's always better to try to convert the non-believers rather than leave, but I've left a few games in my time over personal play style differences.
