Summon Monster question

Can you pick what you want for summon monster, or is it random and based on alignment?

You choose from the list.

Note that clerics (not mages) are limited by their alignment in that summoning, say, a Chaotic Evil creature is a spell with both the [Chaos] and [Evil] descriptors, so a cleric with any L or G in his alignment, or a cleric of a deity with any L or G in His alignment, could not cast that particular Summon spell.

You choose when you cast the spell.

If you are a cleric, you cannot summon a creature whose alignment opposes yours or your deity's. (For instance, a Lawful Evil cleric cannot summon any chaotic monsters, or any good monsters.) Wizards and other spellcasters can summon any monster they want.
