When summoning an undead with any version of this spell, how you determine the kind of undead you get (by the focus component?). For example, at last session the cleric used this spell to get a large skeleton, but I didn't knew which one to give him.

When summoning an undead with any version of this spell, how you determine the kind of undead you get (by the focus component?). For example, at last session the cleric used this spell to get a large skeleton, but I didn't knew which one to give him.

Back in 3.0, Skeletons (and Zombies) only came differentiated by size, which had specific HD. They became Templates in 3.5, and suddenly you can have Zombie Humans and Zombie Gnolls with the same size and different HD.

The Errata for Players Guide to Faerun limits what you can summon based on its HD.

Which means that the player and DM need to work out what is available *before* the session, much like the optional rule to use custom Monster Summoning lists.
