Last night the two eternal questions about summoning arose in the space of five minutes.
Firstly:If I win initiative and start casting any summoning spell,as is (in this case SM III ) Am I subject to all attempts to counter/disrupt etc. untill my turn in the following round?
i.e. Cast spell ,in sight of enemy ,get attacked by fire ball fail concentration check lose spell. Opponent had not readied an action which they would normally have to to disrupt my spell outside of their turn. I accept the ruling , I'm just wondering how can a summoning spell be used effectivly in combat if it work's this way? Also counterspelling a summoning would be pointless if the counterer could be attacked while he was casting the full round spell as a counter.
Second:Having modified my behaviour (as I can't modify my scorcerer ) from the above encounter ,the party moved to a hill location about a K'm from the enemy camp.I wanted to summon a lantern archon to teleport into camp observe the postitions of the guards teleport out, teleport back and tag the guards with continual flame (requiring touch), can a creature with teleport be considered to have suprise,if so can it attack then roll initiative, enableing it to escape. Or does it arrive with teleport then check int. ,if it's lucky attacking then escaping (with an AOO?)
