[Sumo] Aki-basho 2003

Black Omega

First Post
And again we're off in Sumo. The bad news, Musashimaru is out. Again. He's been out nearly a year now, his wrist is allegedly in good shape but he's in woeful physical condition. We'll see. The Moose isn't getting any younger, but he is getting heavier, which only hurts his sumo.

The usual suspects are in the lead. Yokozuna Asashoryu and Ozeki Chiyotaikai and Kaio. Kakizoe and Tamanoshima are also at 4-0 but that won't last. After an unusual strong performance last basho, Musoyama is back to his usual form at 1-3.

Kaio is coming off a win at the last basho, if he wins this one with a good score, he should be promoted to Yokozuna.

i am really pulling for kaio. he is one of the smaller sumos and he always seems to have a lot of speed and heart out there.

So if Kaio gets promoted, does that mean that Musashimaru will become Ozeki? :(

I've finally hopped onboard the Mongolian bandwagon (long live a powerful foreign presence in sumo! :D). I'm especially rooting for Asasekiryu to continue creeping up in the rankings. ;)

Actually, Kaio is around 380lbs. Kaiho is the smaller guy.:)

Yokozuna is for life, so the Moose is safe. now, if he's unable to continue wrestling, or can't wrestle at a higher level. But you can't be demoted from Yokozuna, only retired.

If you want to cheer for a Mongolian, why not Kyokshuzan.? He's been giving Asashoryu fits, the two evidently really loath each other. A strong foreign presense is pretty much unavoidable now. The real question is, who's the next native Yokozuna. The Wolf Cub and Kaio are the only options at this point.

I have a feeling the next tournament will either be Musashimaru's return ... or his announcement to retire. :(

No mo' Hawai'i ties in Sumo.

BTW, isn't it about time it becomes an olympic sport event?
