I just saw it. I enjoyed it - not perfect, and I still prefer the Donner film and Man of Steel, but it was good. A nice campy feel with lots of fun fiddly bits. The aesthetic was almost diametric to Man of Steel - more campy 60s ala the Fantastic Four movie than the baroque darkness of Snyder's version. It was different enough to make comparisons of better or worse unnecessary. And that's the highest praise I could give it: It felt like its own thing, with flavors of past iterations mixed in but not dominating. It struck a nice balance of high stakes and silly fun. I thought the weakest part, surprisingly, was Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. He was OK, but not nearly as fun as Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey, or even the crazy tech guy as Jesse Eisenstein played him. Lois Lane seemed modeled after Margot Kidder's version more than Amy Adams. Brosnahan really looked and felt the part. Mr Terrific was...terrific. Maybe my favorite character in the film. Green Lantern was fun(ny), though the costumes of the "Justice Gang" could have been better, especially GL's. Hawkgirl felt more like a background character. Oh, and the man himself: David Corenswet very much looked the part and did well. He didn't quite have the presence of Henry Cavill or the goofy charm of Christopher Reeve, but he was solid. The dog bothered me less than I thought it would. Overall: A good to very good film, not a great one. It lacked the epic feel of Man of Steel and the archetypal mythos and classic feel of Superman 77, but it was good enough that I wasn't disappointed and feel like it is a good start for the new DC universe.
