General Zod isn't really mentioned, but Lex being put in jail and the, ah, prior relationship between Clark and Lois is important. I've read why this was done, and I'm grateful. The other possible treatments and "reboots" all sounded shaky to me. Richard Pryor is nowhere to be seen, however.Mostly, the movie manages to capture the look and feel of the prior two without seeming dated or even nostaligic. The very look of the prior movies is replicated, updated, improved upon, without significant revision. What they DIDN'T capture was the prior, spot-on, performances of Reeves and Kidder. Routh doesn't manage to capture the Clark Kent "act" where he is convincing as Kent but the audience still knows it is an act. Lois is much more, well, timid. She's not the fast talking gal of the prior movies. On the other hand, Spacey and Posey as Lex and Kitty are perfect. I feel Spacey was born for this role, he's just perfect for it. This is not a goofy, silly, happy Lex. This is a "I've been in prison for years and Superman's going to pay" Lex. It's a progression, an evolution, and an improvement, on the prior movies' Lex. I loved every moment he was on the screen. Kitty, as always, provides a comedic foil to Lex which helps provide contrast to the dastardly deeds he does. If you like Superman at all, you'll find ample opportunity to hate Lex in this movie.There is a story beyond Lex's revenge. It's pretty complicated emotionally, and doesn't really get tackled head on this go around. My only complaint, not enough Clark Kent! In 2 1/2 hours you would think they could more Clark into it. Clark's relationship with Lois is virtually nonexistant. The movie does end satisfactorly. There is sufficient closure, but things are left WIDE open for a sequel. Apparently, Singer hopes to do three of these.</blockquote>
