Supplement Issues

As I read the wraithstrike thread in the rules forum, I realized my reason for not using books of supplements.

One serious muck up, in my mind, contaminates the entire supplement. You see, I'm lazy when it comes to my leisure hours. Doing (non-chore) work during this time is twice as discomforting and vetting a supplement isn't fun for me. Needless to say, this attitude is doubtless over-reacting to some degree because I place a very high premium on balance.

However, (almost) every position needs to be justified in the face of reason, so maybe you could tell me how you deal with and/or allow supplements? :)

Oh yeah, the issues as I see it for supplement can include the following:
- Do you allow supplements @ campaign beginning so everyone is on an even level for mapping their character development?
- Do you add supplements as they come out and allow re-picks?
- Do you think it's better to leave it to the player to hunt around for what they really really want?
- If one of the 'Complete' gets vetoed, do you disallow the remainder to not disadvantage the player's character affected by the veto?

I'm certain I've missed issues to consider, so please raise them for others & myself to consider.

Thank you all :)

No one ever wants to use everything from a supplement immediately, and between ENWorld and other sites, the issues with a supplement quickly come out, as do fixes. (Heck, sometimes the author pops in with their suggested fixes.) If there's something a player wants to use (in my case, it was a spell from Complete Divine), just ask here and the collective braintrust can let you know if others find something to be worth worrying about.

Think of it as the distributed computer power of SETI@Home, but for D&D. ;)

I basically allow my players to use everything. We've even used wraithstrike and not had it cause problems. I find it is more important to get a group that you can trust and have fun wiuth then a group that you have to worry about and limit.
