SW- A reworked question

Ha! I was able to go an entire day with only 1 question! :D

Okay, today's question revolves around jedi and using the force offensively.
In the Section on the Firce (pg 179 to be precise) it says:
"While a blaster can let a Jedi attack from a distance, it is just as effective - and more in keeping with the Jedi Code - to use the force instead."
How does a Jedi use the force offensively without getting a dark side point? Every offensive force skill grants a dark side point when you use it!
This also leads me to ask the question of whether or not you can use the force to defend against other force-users.
Thanks for everyone's answers!

DC
EDIT: I read somewhere in the book where a force user can use the force to compensate for their vision/hearing, but for the life of me I can't find it again. Any chance someone knows the passage I'm referring to?

*AHEM!*

...waves his hands non-chalantly...

"You do not want to attack me."

Or... Use the lightsaber "Deflect (Attack -4)" ability to bounce blaster bolts back at the bad guys.

Or... Just the friggin blaster pistol already.
