Swallow Whole

1. How many creatures (and of what size) would a tyrannosaurus being able to hold in its gizzard if it were affected by an animal growth? I see no rules on this, and different same-sized creatures hold different numbers (compare with a dire shark, also Huge).

2. Would it still do the same damage (2d8+8)? Is this damage not modified by the size of the creature or its strength? It doesn't seem to be, but maybe I missed something.

This one I reccomend going with "gut instinct". :] Raise the sizes that fit one step maybe?

Digestion damage i am unsure on.

Each size category increase basically doubles the size of the creature, so doubling the storage capacity would be reasonable. Note that if the creature is full when animal growth wears off, the excess should appear outside of the animal's body.

I would say no. The stomach of Gargantuan monsters still often do 2d8+#, and even the Tarrasque's Colossal stomach only does 2d8+8 points of crushing damage. Perhaps the extra room makes the place more comfortable.

Swallow Whole damage appears arbitrary. For some creatures, it's equivalent to bite damage. For some, it's X + Str bonus. For some, it's X + 1.5x Str bonus. (All of these may be coincidence.) For some (Nightcrawler, Tarrasque...), it's unrelated to anything.

I'd be inclined to leave it as is; alternatively, bump the standard damage to 2d8 + 9 and make it Str-dependent.

I'd agree with Frank on capacity - bump 2 Medium up to 2 Large, etc.

-Hyp.

The gizzard of a tyrannosaurus under the effect of animal growth can hold 2 large, 8 medium, 32 small, 128 tiny, 512 diminutive, or 2048 fine creatures.

Its Swallow Whole ability deals 3d8+12 plus 12 acid.

And no, I can't justify my numbers any more than WotC can.

So what's up, I2k? You seem to be all over the minutiae of animals lately.

EDIT: OK, so I can justify them a little bit. Hypersmurf and I cross-posted, and I'd like to say that a larger gizzard can grind larger things more efficiently, a stronger creature can grind them harder, and higher constitution will certainly speed digestion (acid) more brutally. Hence, I feel 3d8+12 plus 12 (or maybe 13) is a better choice than 2d8+9. Getting eaten by a gargantuan tyrannosaurus should be a harrowing experience!

You didn't see the other thread? I'm redoing all the stat blocks in the new MMIV format. I'm also making animal growth ones.

What about those with Augment Summoning? And then those with Augment Summoning AND Animal Growth? ;)

Actually, yes. There will be four sets. That's why I'm trying to hammer out these little details. Not having playing a druid myself (nor a high level druid NPC as DM), I had no idea how complicated animal growth can be for some of these creatures.
