Round 1, continued Gildrim shakes off his astonishment at the sudden carnage, and hurries forward with a roar of his own, landing a solid blow on the second ankheg. Round 2 Karl's blood continues to pool beneath him, mingling with that of the first ankheg. Richard turns to the second monster, and, growing confident, tries a second mighty two-handed swing. This one nearly ends in disaster, though, as he completely misses and buries his sword six inches into the dirt. He quickly yanks it out, face burning. Weel darts forward to Karl's side, calling on the gods for aid. His call is answered, and life-giving energy fills Karl, stopping the bleeding and restoring some color to his pallid face, but the explorer remains unconscious. The ankheg turns to face Gildrim, lashing out at the source of its painful wound. The dwarf defends ably, though, knocking the serrated jaws aside. [sblock=ooc]Gildrim hits for 12. Karl fails to stabilize, falling to -8. Richard misses. Critical fumbles are an optional alternate rule, I believe, not part of RAW for LEW, so it doesn't apply here. I dislike fumbles, myself; I think it's just not heroic, realistic, or fun to have trained, experienced warriors with a 1-in-40 chance of disaster every time they attack. Weel moves and heals Karl, stabilizing him and bringing him back up to -3. The ankheg attacks Gildrim, 1d20+7=13 misses.
