(SWd20) Can somebody explain the "Holonet"?

Ok, I understand what the Holonet is and everything. What I'm puzzled on is how easy is it to access when it comes to the Astrogation information it contains. I know what the rules say about the increased DC modifiers in the Rebellion Era. But during the other times, how freely available is this data? Where do you have to go to get it? Whom do you have to obtain permission from to access it? Is all of this strictly up to me as GM to decide?

How do you handle all of this?

Hmm. I'll take the number of views vs. the number of replies to mean that the answer to my question is "I don't know and/or I don't care". ;)

No problem. Maybe I'm overthinking the whole thing.

Hmmmm. In the WEG version of Star Wars, the Holonet was largely a communications and information network, it had nothing to do with astrogation.

Also, in the WEG game, during the Republic (and New Republic days), anyone could get a receiver/transmitter. But in the Imperial days, only the Imperials could, and only they could use it.

in the starship book for the new d20 start wars it had the price of a holonet transciever as 150,000 credits. I would guess this gived you access to the holonet.

Thanks for the info, guys. I think that for the occasional SW games that I run, I'll handle it on a case by case basis.

For non-Rebellion Era games, I think I'll have updated Holonet info available for free as part of the docking fee on most (especially Core) worlds. For places where access is more restricted (like my current situation of the Hutt controlled spaceport of Mos Espa) I like the idea of restricted Holonet data being a saleable commodity.
