swords

I've been reading some books on making swords... here's some interesting facts.... :)

it takes around 128 heatings and 43 hours of work to make a normal early medieval form of a pattern-welded blade. (strips of hard and soft iron being twisted together, then repeatedly heated and beaten flat)

it takes around 75 hours to make the sword complete with hilt, scabbard, and belt.

the finest decorated sword could take at least 200 hours, or one months work.

forging the blade alone required 500-750kg of charcoal...

maybe thats why the craft skills take so long? hehe :)

Gosh.

I suppose, if you think about it, that all authentic swords are masterwork.

Otherwise they just don't cut it.

Pun (sorta) intended.
