So I'm currently working on a homebrew for Druids to feel appropriate in supported MTG settings thanks to Plane Shift: Zendikar, Plane Shift: Innistrad, and soon enough Plane Shift: Kaladesh. So far I've decided to simply alter Wild Shape, Beast Spells, & Archdruid to match the Druid on each plane. Zendikar should hardly change them, but alter just enough so that instead of transformation into an animal, Wild Shape functions like Totem Armor. On Kaladesh, the feature could allow the druid to use artisan's tools to craft the same sorts of beasts that Wild Shape allows, only as Constructs. However, on Innistrad, thanks to Somberwald Sage and Druid's Familiar, I feel like a Soulbond-flavor via a Familiar would work excellent for flavor. However, issues arise; What do the 2 uses of Wild Shape per long rest do? They could cast this Wild Shape-altered variant of Find Familiar, but what's the point in having it twice per long rest? I feel like they could be used to trigger bonuses shared between the druid and the familiar (or just familiar) but all I can think of is "regain 1d8 hit points" and that's it. Now, this may be going too far, but I'm also *considering* Beast Spells/Archdruid unlocking the option to have a similar bond with a single party member, but nonetheless, familiar or party-familiar, what can a use of "Wild Shape" be changed to do to benefit your familiar, even temporarily, that wouldn't completely rip-off a spell in such a way casting the spell becomes obsolete? Also, when the available CR of your familiar would change (same time as it would for Wild Shape) idk if "your familiar just changes shape" sounds as appropriate. I guess when CR increases, as DM I should just decree they must dismiss their familiar and essentially summon a new, stronger familiar?
