TOMCATS Blue Devil Games jumped genres on me. This is their second product and after their very good Poisoncraft book that was solid fantasy, their second product is TOMCATS and it is a superheroes product. TOMCATS is an M&M superlink products that is it uses the rules from Green Ronin’s critically claimed Mutants and Mastermind rules. TOMCAT focuses on the cybernetic heroes. It presents an Organization and heroes that are all cybernetic. It has some new powers and feats as well for people to create heroes like these, but the organization and NPCs are clearly more of a focus. There are also a few adventure idea for using the TOMCATS. TOMCATS is a thirty one page PDF. The file comes in a zip format two and half megs and size and the PDF file itself when unzipped is three and half megs. The book is well book marked. The book is in full color with a mix of black and white and color art. The layout could be a little tighter as there is a lot of white space in the book. The book starts with a good introduction on what the book is as well as an introduction to the writers and authors. I really like to see a little space given to the writers and artists as it helps make people a bit more aware of who these people are. It seems most of the writers and artists in the RPG industry get the recognition that they deserve. TOMCATS starts with a good introduction of the organization and how it came about. The Mandate of the organization as well as information on the base is also covered. The team is consisted of Knockout a female cyborg that excels in information, languages, as well as fighting; Steadfast the cybernetic brick or tough guy of the team; and Electrilad who has implants that help him control and use electricity. There are also three supporting cast charters Dr Hennessey the mechanic and inventor, Captain Lancaster the officer in charge, and Martin Milliford the project manager Next is the toolbox and it has some new rules and options for character that want cyborgs. The first is the cyborg power and it is a bit like sorcery in that it is very versatile. There is a side bar mentioning this and the possibility of min maxers to abuse. There are a few new feats like Extreme critical that allows a critical to do even more damage and Bureaucrat that gives bonus to charisma checks for certain people. There are new uses for a pair of skills and a pair of new weaknesses as well. The book ends with some adventures seeds for the organization. These are not fully thought out adventures but they do give a good direction and allow for the game master to fill in details dependant on his or her campaign. TOMCATS sets out to give the cyborg option to super heroes. It also offers some examples of them and should be a good addition to anyone playing Mutants and Masterminds.
