I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanical aspects but focus instead on the story as others have alluded to. Does she come from a large family? Are they still close? Country or city? Is she bold and daring or a scaredy cat and why? Why is her character adventuring and not just curled up in front of a warm fire? Ask leading questions and let her imagination go. If she wants to be a princes kitten (noble background) that's great, but why is she risking life and limb? Maybe she remembers a warm and loving family but one day found herself on the street. Awesome, you have a mystery to explore! As far as mechanics, that's the least of my worries when playing with a kid. Start with the story and the rest will follow. For example, Tom my charismatic rogue (any resemblance to Puss-In-Boots is purely coincidental) has fond memories of a warm and loving home on the outskirts of the city followed by a night of chaos and terror. He found himself alone and abandoned on the streets of the city, fending for himself as best he could. As a moderately successful adventurer he comes off as cocky and sure of himself, but it's really a cover for deep insecurities. His fear of abandonment also makes it difficult for him truly trust anyone else. So for me, the story comes first and then I figure out everything else next. If your daughter is anything like most 10 year olds, let her come up with a story with some gentle direction from you. Once she has a story, figure out a background.
