Tact-Tiles (or equivalents)

Many years ago now there used to be a jigsaw type battlemat product know as Tact-Tiles. They were made by BC-Products, who then abruptly just disappeared.

According to this thread another company, Imagineering, Inc had bought the rights to the product but, as of May 2010, decided not to do anything to them.

Does anyone know if anything has changed since then? Is there any chance they will make a return?

I know of one other similar product on the market - Battlegraph Dry Erase Boards.

Has anyone used these? What are your thoughts on them?

Are than the Battlegraph boards, are there any other similar products that are currently available to buy?

I have a set of Tact-Tiles that I used until I started using D&D tiles. I was thinking about selling them on Ebay since I am not getting any use out of them. In fact, I'm thinking of selling my D&D tiles also (along with my custom made containers for them). I converted to using a VTT setup with maptools, so I don't need my tiles anymore.

They were pretty nice to use. They require dry erase markers and I never had any problems with them shifting around.

I have a set of 12 Tact Tiles that I might be persuaded to trade for. The only issue is that some of them are a bit scratched because I left a map in place for a week at a friend's house and he had cats with sharp nails. These scratches don't seem to catch any dry erase marker over the long term; you can erase across them normally.

If you're interested let me know. I'm actually not sure if I want to trade them, but depending on what the trade was, I might go for it.

Just as a clue as to what I'd trade for, at the moment I'm most in need of a PCI express graphics card. (It can be very cheap, I just need to be able to attach dual monitors via the two different types of port), and I'm not into 4e, but a batch of books with a sticker price of about $100 would do it. I'd have to pay shipping on the tiles and they're heavy.

So basically, something that was around $100 value before it was used, with negotiations from there- cash could be much less. I believe I paid around $100 for the tiles, and they're used too, so it seems fair, considering their rarity.

Crap, I didn't see that you were in Australia. If you can figure out a cheap way to ship them from the US (such as separate manila envelopes and shipping as magazines/books), we might still be able to work something out, but it seems tough to work out.

If it doesn't work out with Olaf - would a 512MB GeForce 9800 GT do? I had a dual video card setup on my computer, but one of the cards died and I couldn't find a replacement, so I ended up getting a new video card to replace both. As a result, I have the two old video cards sitting in a box. One of them is non-functional but the other should be fine. It's been bugging me having a perfectly good video card sitting around doing nothing.

I have Tact-tiles. I LOVE them. The product that came out after Tact-tiles though was junk as one of my players says he has 36 of them and they are far more flimsy than Tact-tiles. I don't know, but I'm just saying what he said.

RSKennan, feel free to work out a deal with Dausuul for the Tact-Tiles. I think trading stuff would work out way to expensive once you add in shipping costs. And I'd hate to find out that shipping to Australia meant you only got a little bit of money for the Tact-Tiles.

I certainly appreciate your generous offer though as I think they would go for more than $100 in an open market.

I'd still love to see Tact-Tiles make a comeback.

Are you referring to the Longtooth Dry Erase Boards or the imitation Tact-Tiles that a company called Great Victory Widgets was selling on eBay a while back?

The lack of waterproof-ness of the Longtooth boards makes me worry about them a little bit. Drinks don't exactly get spilt at my game each session (I'm not even sure I can remember the last time it happened), but it still makes me a little cautious of the product.

Full credit for Longtooth Studies for actually being totally up-front about the need to keep them dry, rather than not mentioning it and just hoping it doesn't cause an issue for a customer.

I'll have to ask my player. I don't know which one he has. I think it's the imitation Tact-Tiles.

I love my Tact-tiles because they are very durable.
