Take the HackMaster Challenge

Since several Hackmaster threads have been popping up here lately, I thought it was a good time to issue what I'm calling the "HackMaster challenge."

It's simple - if you've never played HackMaster before (and you don't already own the books), send me an email at mark(at)kenzerco.com, and you'll get a coupon code for a free HackMaster GameMaster's Guide from our webstore! You'll only have to pay the shipping and handling cost.

The only other thing I ask you to do is to actually sit down and read it (don't just toss it on a shelf to gather dust). I don't think that's too much to ask. :D

EDIT: OFFER ENDED TODAY (MAY 9TH) AT NOON.

(insert Fred Flintstone-style ratza-fratza grumbling here)

It doesn't pay to be such a fan that one already has bought all the HackMaster products!

Don't you have a cousin or nephew who might want to play?

Just to be cynical, isn't this a case of where you probably make more money off of shipping & handling than the product is actually worth (like most things sold on late night TV)?

I mean, as mentioned in the other threads, various stores have heavily discounted the books. And in order to put the books to use, people would have to buy a Player's Handbook and presumably some monster manuals.

And looking at your website, it seems like shipping is $7, which is about $5 too much for book rate.

No, that seems highly unlikely.

Actually a 30 dollar book being sold directly (we move quite a few of them -- especially at summer cons) would yield about 4 times that in profit (with the cost of the print run having been covered several years ago).

Costs nothing to warehouse them as they move.

And yes -- to put it to good use you would need a Player's Handbook and some monster manuals. Which is the entire point. Give folks who might not normally pick up the GMG and hopefully hook them for further sales. ;)

Yeah, we'll confess. We're nice guys but we're not exactly running a charity.

Marks dangling a carrot on a stick.

The practice has worked well for us in the past. We've been known togive away Player Handbooks at the summer cons to customers riding the fence just to lure them into the fold. And it's effective.

It's not about selling a particular book. It's about promoting a product line.
