taking 10

Rather than rolling a spot check in secret, or saying "Make a spot check." Do any of you just assume the character's are taking 10 with modifiers for paying attention and figure success thta way?

I do as well...I let them roll when they are specifically looking for something, or if some event has put them on alert. Other than that, take 10.
