This appears to be a dead thread, but I did have an idea for a town that's been floating around in my head for a couple of years. I can describe the social situation better then anything else, because that's what I'm concerned with. My boyfriend thinks it's a boring place, but I just think it's realistic, so it should be good for Urbis. This town (and it should be a town rather then a city because this is an unusual group of people) is really two towns. An elven settlement and a human settlement exist in close proximity to each other and have such good relations that they've virtually merged into one political entity. Naturally, there is much intermarriage and the population is divided fairly evenly between humans, half-elves, and elves--there are a few members of other races, but they're hardly worth counting in a census. There are even families that have been half-elves further back that anyone but the oldest of the elves can remember and even then it's just, "my grandfather told me about your ancestors before he died." Because half-elves are so common in this community, they are not looked down on or pitied at all--and individual half-elves don't feel out of place because of growing up at different rates then their peers since there are so many others that are just like them. Between the three main population groups, there is no prejudice--at least not that can be seen on the surface. The only things I can say about it physically, is that it should be a smallish town rather then a city, and it should gradually change from a typical human city into a wooded elven community--maybe look sort of like the forest is reclaiming an abandoned town, even though the town isn't abandoned. That's a very confusing statement, but it's the pest way I can describe it.
