Message: <blockquote data-quote="tsadkiel" data-source="post: 1126534" data-attributes="member: 262">I'm going to shift gears for a minute, and talk about Exalted.  If you're not familiar with it, Exalted is a wuxia/anime/pulp sword&sorcery inspired game put out by White Wolf.The titular characters of the game have been chosen (or "exalted") by one of the setting's deities; the default PCs are Solar Exalted, chosen by the setting's chief god, the Unconquered Sun, but there are also Lunar and Sidereal and Abyssal and other sorts of Exalted as well.  This being White Wolf, each type of Exalted is further subdivided into Castes which give acces to assorted abilities, yadda, yadda, yadda, but that's not why I'm talking about the game.One unusual thing the Exalted designers have done is give rough population figures for the various Exlated types - there are 10,000 or so Dragon-Blooded (the weakest type), for instance, but only about 150 Solar and only 50 or so Abyssal Exalted.  Since the types are divided into 5 castes, that means only 10 members of each Abyssal caste in the world.  And the world is huuuuge - makes the Forgotten Realms look puny by comparison.  As a result, even starting PCs are in the "rare and cool" category.  Back to Taladas.  The AU classes all have a heavy degree of very specific flavor to them.  I plan to add to that flavor by making them rare - perhaps not as rare as the types of Exalted, but I intend to use PC classes only for important named characters - even high level foes will be warriors and adepts and aristocrats and the like.  While a PC Gnomoi tinker would be an Akashic, the average NPC is an Expert.  While a PC from the Elf Clans might be a Totem Warrior, the rest of his Clan are merely Warriors.</blockquote>
