Atty Shifter Monk 1/Soulknife 1 Atty grew up in a village of Shifters in the Eldeen Reaches. The Shifters distrusted humans and kept mainly to themselves, sometimes trading with other Shifters and Halflings who lived in the Reaches. Atty was a natural hothead, constantly getting into trouble because of his temper. At an early age, he learned that he could manifest a blade of pure energy protruding from his closed fist. This ability earned him the nickname “psycho” as the other young Shifters picked on him and his psionic ability, an ability that was even more distrusted than humans. When he was 22, his life changed forever. One of the local boys had pushed him too far. Of course, to Atty, “too far” meant he looked at him wrong twice that day. As Atty approached, the boy took a defensive stance, causing Atty to do the same. Atty meant to just punch him in the face but his rage took over and, just as he made contact, his blade manifested itself, cutting the boys head in two. Atty was put on trial for murder. He was found guilty and banished from the village. He was forced to wander the world, trying to find some direction and, hopefully, not kill anyone else on accident. 3 years of wandering brought him to the doors of a monastery dedicated to Dol Dorn. There, he learned to control his rage and not shift the first time he became angry in a day, which was usually at breakfast. After a couple of years at the temple, he left, trying to find his own way. At this point in his life, Atty is simply looking to control his emotions. Everything else is secondary. He likes to challenge himself by working with others and trying, very hard, not to explode. It doesn't always work, ok, it almost NEVER works, but he tries. He tried the basic "I need an escort to X location" shtick and ended up fighting with his ward. Almost didn't make it to the desired location. He tried the "I need someone to guard this X for a month." 2 days into it he would fight anyone who came close to X, even its owner. All in all, he's just trying to mellow himself out and lead a "normal" life, whatever that means. In all honesty, he has never met a person, or persons, outside of the monastery who he thinks even DESERVES his attention. If he can avoid them, he does, but he tries to find out if the person is worthy of his associating with them. As for the monastery, his mentor was an older human named Soma. Soma saw that Atty was troubled and took him under his wing. Atty grew to respect and admire Soma, as did all the other monks. However, Atty never felt completely at home there, always feeling like the other monks were watching and judging him. In reality, they weren't but he still felt that way. After hearing stories of monks who roamed the lands looking for enlightenment rather than waiting for it in a monastery, he decided to leave and find his own path. Soma was sad to see him go but he understood that Atty's shifter nature would not allow him to stay in one place for too long. The fact that Atty stayed with Soma for two years was amazing in and of itself.
