Tanglefoot bags

Ok, I know tanglefoot bags have issues on huge creatures. That isn't my question. My question is what happens when a creature fails the ref save? I had always been told that the creature was reduced to half move, but that was about it. Now I have been told that the target is entangled if hit, period. Why doesn't every one use these constantly?

Next, how fast are they to use? MEA to get out, standard to throw as a grenade like weapon, I think. What about a potion belt from FRCS?

Finally, at what point do they stop being effective? I know it flakes off after a minute, but what about sooner? Can it be disolved?

I am running a lower magic game, and items like tanglefoot bags, alchemist fire, and acid have come up quite often. Does any have any good experience with these items at higher levels?

Thanks for the support.

Because they're mucking huge and heavy - at least the size of a softball, and *much* denser. Especially at low levels, when you don't have nifty items like Bags of Holding, this is an issue.

Sounds right.

Can it be disolved?
Yes, using alcohol.

The way I handle tanglefoot bags against larger creatures is this:

Each 5' "section" of the creature has to be hit to get the full effect. IE: if the creature is 10' by 20', then a tanglefoot bag at one section could immobilize that side. Say the creature has two claws, a tail, and a bite. If you hit it in the upper right area, your tanglefoot bag may immobilize that one claw, tail, or mouth, but in order to completely immobilize it you would have to hit all sides of it.

Just use a bit of common sense and it should work fine.

Why aren't tanglefoot bags used all the time?

Honestly, they do cost a decent amount, but considering there power without a save, they are extremely powerful and I think players would use them a lot more if they really thought about them.

I totally agree, they are quite powerful for the cost. That is why I made them cost 250gp :).
