Tarzan, Lord of the jungle

So if you were to convert Tarzan to d20, how would you do it? Ranger? Fighter? Druid with no spell access (for the animal companions)? Aristrocrat? Seeing there is no jungle, beastmaster type classes or prestige how would you build him? Let's get some creative juices flowing.

I would say Complete Warrior Ranger (i.e. no spells) would work well, focusing on "movement" skills. You might even mix in some Barbarian, too. Counter-intutively, because of his unarmed attacks, low levels of Monk might work, but the Lawful requirement does not fit- Chaotic Barbarian makes more sense. Maybe add some Fighter levels taking unarmed strike and related feats.

barbarian grappler...from actually reading the book, tarzan challenged the ape heirarchy by using 'wrestling moves' that allowed him to threaten a broken neck while avoiding the ape's strength advantage.

give him a monk's belt, some feats (dodge, athletic, improved grapple, improved unarmed strike, whatever else), good skills like climb and jump.

Barbarian/ranger to start, later taking the Lord of the Jungle PrC, which has the special requirement that one be raised by apes :)

Barbarian/rogue, perhaps split evenly. Barb gives movement, BAB, movement skills; handle animal and other skills can come from his rogue resources.

We know he's literate (he teaches himself to read on finding his family's books in the jungle--there's multiclassing for you!) with more than his share of 18s. I'd make him NG, with a clear sense of selfless devotion to his jungle family (which could play out Lawful Neutral, but need not).

Hmmm... He can wrestle, is very strong, is quite proficient with a bow, rope, and spear, knows dozens of languages, can attract many followers and even has an animal companion through most of book three IIRC. He has tons of skills like climb, jump, balance, tumble, move silently, listen, hide, spot, survival (with track) maybe even escape artist. He also has the scent ability. Hmm... statting him out would be hard since his strength would have to be so high, along with intelligence, dexterity, and charisma. His wisdom and constitution can't be much lower either. He is now immortal so he not only wouldn't suffer aging effects, he will never die of natural causes. Oh, he is also quite proficient with a gun.

There are probably a lot of things that I forgot to mention since it has been many years since I read all 24 books. Anyway, it is hard for me to put him in any one or two classes. Parts of rogue, fighter, monk, druid, and ranger can all fit. Tarzan seems like he would fit much better in a custom prestige class made for him. Then I would probably use ranger/rogue to qualify for the prestige class.
