Hi! I am here to advertise my own Project TavernMaker which is a free software tool to automatically generate fantasy taverns. No, don't stop reading :] ! It is not one of the 1000 "put together some random words"-generators. It is based on a different idea, which is TeamWare. This means: We (my programmer Whinney and I) provide the software for free but we ask the user to register by submitting some work to the project. (Most often, by writing 5 descriptions for the database.) As a result - and the project is running for years now - we have a nice database of over 1500 handmade high-quality descriptions from which the generator can "randomly" pick his results. There is much more to be told about Project TavernMaker, but the biggest news is: We have finally release the first full version, and you can get it from http://tavernmaker.de Well, as stated before: There is much more! TavernMaker currently generates floorplans and then populates the tables with the handmade descriptions. It then generates a list of "pick-pocket & DM info" associated with the descriptions. The program has it's own "scripting language" to make the dataset of the database even more flexible. We kept the project open, so that it can be easily adapted to other systems than the fantasy AD&D setting the main database is based on. And finally, you can even abuse the program completely and create f.e. a "village generator" or "cave generator" or whatever out of it. There is really an awful lot of potential in the project (The source code has 67.000 lines of C++ code, and all files have more than 5 MB together...) and we would love to get some feedback & help with it.
