Message: <blockquote data-quote="Ciaran" data-source="post: 457347" data-attributes="member: 756">Jeez, he should make up his mind, eh?  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" /> Mythago has some very good points regarding personal dynamics with a gamer boyfriend.  There's also the issue of running your BF in a group; when Conn got named Prince in the Vampire LARP I was running, there were all sorts of murmurs about favoritism, despite the fact that I had nothing to do with it.  (Of course, the more experienced players knew that I'd never do something like that because they know just how unpleasant the role is, but I digress.)  No matter how strictly you try to stay impartial with your BF, there's gonna be talk; and if he's new, you're probably going to be tempted to go easy on him, give him the cool toys, etc.  Avoid those temptations, but then, you don't really need to be told, do ya?  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":-)" title="Smile    :-)"  data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":-)" />Once you get him started, it's important to gauge what elements of role-playing appeal to him most and which ones bore him to tears.  Will he like immersing himself in a role?  Will his quest for the +5 Thingamajig fire his blood?  Will he get excited every time he gets hold of a new magical item or another stash of cash?  Will the suspense of dice rolling and combat grab and hold his attention?  Or will any or all of these elements leave him cold and desperately wanting to leave?  You may find out that he'll only be interested if he's in combat all the time, or he may only be interested if there's no dice rolling whatsoever.  Stay alert to his preferences!- Eric</blockquote>
