OK one and all, here is my yearly recap of the awesomeness that is Gen Con. First off, my trip to the Con was devoid of catastrophe this year which puts 2007 in the running for BEST GEN CON EVER on its own. I didn't have to punch an elderly man, I didn't lose my wallet with all my money, I didn't arrive at the airport a day early...nothing. Travel this year was nothing more or less than what was expected :w00t: I showed up Thursday night to the Judges reception and began getting drunk. Somewhere between ultra-drunk and too drunk judging by how bad I felt the next morning at Rel's awe-inspiring SkyGalleons of Mars game. The game itself seemed to have healing power as the hangover dissipated before its end...at a much faster rate than I am used to. Friday night at the ENnies was wonderful. I've never seen the show go so smoothly. If we never look for another MC besides Piratecat that's cool with me. He has become the ENnies host. Reveal's leisure suit and pimped out leopard boots with dice in the transparent heels are the gold standard for "Looking Awesome". Shee-it. I'm not longer an ENnies judge. My 7 year dynasty has ended...I plan to commit sepukku in the near future as I am no longer of use to my Lords and Masters (not a death threat). The women attending the ENnies are getting startlingly beautiful...I have no explanation for it. The gaming that I did this year was all good. Rel's previously Mentioned Skygalleons game is narrowly bumped out of first place by Piratecat's Dread Game by the presence of The_Universe as a fellow player. There are a lot of people in contention for "Favorite GM" amongst the Brethren and Sistren (?) here, but as far as favorite other players in a game...Kennon has no equal. The guy is a laugh riot and manages to throw himself into character so fully that the comedy is never based on the contrast between himself and his character. Pure joy. TBR continued to rock. As per usualy, nothing whatsoever happened. Initiates like Bubbalicious and Mrs FickleGM did not acquit themselves magnificently. Full-Pin Journeymen like Fett and Xath failed to draw the attention of the best strippers in the place like flowers drawing bees. Initiate Barsoomcore did not smuggle Castro's Cigars into the Garter for us. The absence of our brother Klaus was not felt like a missing limb. :( Organization took a hit this year as we were asked to move the traditional date of the excursion to accommodate some imaginary post-ENnies party. Never again. TBR=Gen Con, Friday Night, Following the ENNies--Now and Forever. (in related news, we've always been at war with Oceania). Publishers were very forthcoming with review copies of their work, so I guess I should really get my ass back in gear as a Staff Reviewer again. :) I ran into a EN World lurker who I used to correspond with quite a bit and, after watching him at the Gamer Olympics, I think I can safely say that if North America was a feudalism based on skill with Boffer weapons...you would all be paying your taxes to Blackdirge. I mean jesus christ...I've never seen someone in the middle of a bout at Gamer Olympics actually boot one of the Ringers in the shield hard enough to send him ass-over-teakettle, then leap astride the guy, catch his opponent's weapon wrist, immobilize his mace and flip his own sword around and plunge it into the guy's chest To quote Darth Vader..."impressive". The gamer Olympics guy looked :):):):)ing shocked. He was in the majority. Almost as good as the year a legally blind Wil Upchurch hit one of the ringers in the neck-shoulder nerve cluster hard enough to legit take the guy out for an hour or so. With a boffer weapon. :killinme: Best moments... Wanger comparing sharing a White Castle Tinyburger with a group of crackheads hanging out in front of the Garter to actually being in the Garter. The peak of his argument: the crackhead group had a woman in it :killinme: Xath trundling out of the elevator at the Embassy to go to her costume contest...and getting a spontaneous round of applause from the several hundred folks there. She. Looked. Awesome. Morrus and Inconsiquenti-Al. My two roomies from my first year as ENnies judge. Glad they both made it back. No special "moment" really. Fett delivering a blistering, paint-peeling series of analogs for ":):):):) off" to someone who deserved them. There's too little of that in the world. Rel and Nareau having dinner with me. The food was the first good food I had had the entire trip. The Company put it to shame. Finding out that I had a four book set as a wedding gift for Upchurch and Goblin Girl only to find out that Wil had bough the set for GG already. OK, maybe that one wasn't a "Favorite" moment...but it was nice to know that the gift was well-chosen:) Reveal's. :):):):)ing. Suit.:w00t: SandwichCon 2007 Wyn and Scyld. They seemed awfully cool, and somehow I didn't spend any time with them outside of the parties. I'll probably add to this list as I remember stuff that needs to be here. And now we come to the much anticipated "Year Of" announcement. Each year I declare the Gen Con experience to be "The Year of...(some Gen Con attendee)". The criteria is not anything startling...just the person that to my mind seemed most prevalent at the con. More times than not, it's someone I met there for the first time. This year that is not the case. The winner from the First Gen Con I ever Attended was my good buddy and Magic: the Gathering artist, Anson Maddox. I had never seen someone charm a group of waitresses going off shift into both taking us to their favorite nightclub, and buying the first round. Anson was, like, Skirt Jesus. The last year Gen Con was in Milwaukee, the winner was Creative Mountain, whom we now know as MarkCMG. The first year Gen Con was in Indy, well...I forgot to do it :/ allright, so I'm not the organizational tour de force that Ms.D is for the ENnies) 2 years ago, the winner was our own Rel...never have I seen a first timer so involved in every aspect of the con... ...until 2006 became the year of Kiznit almost by acclamation...dude was everywhere, and everyone loved him. And now, without further ado, this "Year of" goes to the same person everything else went to...

A much deserved ENnies Judge position.
An incredibly deserved "Best Everything" win at the costume contest.
A 45 Dollar win at the Kareoke Contest.
"Best Mauling by a Stripper" at TBR
Her win this year is based on hard work, skill and effort she has put in since last year. Well, maybe not so much the "Best Stripper Mauling"--that one was luck--but Kiznit, take off the tiara and cape and hand her some flowers. Because I declare 2007... THE YEAR OF XATH Feel free to shoot her some applause. She deserves it. More importantly, she's earned it:)
