Tegal Manor news

UPDATE!! Post4ed by Clark Peterson on the Necro Tegel thread:

Tegel stats:
*July 2008
*Full color
*128 page soft bound (though Erik and I are considering hard)
*Fold out four panel map of the manor in color. All other maps internal.
*PDFs of mini-scale maps in full color will be electronically available (details not fully worked out yet).
*This is NOT a boxed set. It is one book.
*Stats will likely be in an appendix in the back. That will depend on 4E stat blocks and layout issues.
*This is NOT an elite or pricy product. I think it is $28. Not sure. Erik is setting the price based on other Paizo products of similar size and content. We are not going limited edition on this. There will be a lot of copies.

I thought I was an old gamer, but Tegel Manor doesn't ring any bells. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Its an old JG product (Judges Guild) being redone.

No MSRP mentioned, but I am guessing $40.00 since they have really toned down what they are going to do with this.

The original D&D Haunted House

Really depends on pricing as to whether I pick this up as it sounds expensive and I don't need (or want) all that full color business...never have. It's a great old module, but as much as I love original JG products, and as much as I love Necro's "house" products, I've not been really "wow"ed in the least by Necro's JG material. I bought and sold the PG, and passed over CSIO and the box set.

I'm not impressed by "full color," either (especially if it drives up the price). However, I've liked just about everything that Melan has worked on, and we seem to have similar tastes, so I'll probably pick this up. Especially since there's going to be a C&C conversion.

My take on these:
Wilderlands boxed set: Fantastic. Well worth the money.
Players Guide: Meh. (Especially since I have no use for 3E crunch.)
CSIO: Good. Nice because it includes Wraith Overlord material.
Caverns of Thracia: Very good (love the original).

Now this is a module I remeber playing! ;)

Back in the day it was the Huge Departure module, in that it wasn't a dungeon and everything took place in a single house. It was sort of like Disney's Haunted Mansion meets D&D.

Oh man, (singing) Meeeemmmoooriiiiiiies.....(/singing)

I think the reason I've never warmed up to the NG version is that I always used JG products "back in the day" as plug ins. The modules especially, but also things like Custalcon, and some of the installments (and ready ref sheets were a godsend). I never ran a Wilderlands campaign proper. The NG products are very much a cohesive whole to the campaign setting, and therefore less useful to me..or seem that way.

No disrespect to the Necro crew or the JG writers, they are my fave D20 company and the NG wilderlands are obviously top notch products. But because of that cohesive nature they just don't have that same sense of wonder or excitement. Weird, I know, but thats the best way I can describe it. Its like the LGG vs the original GH folio, or the 3E FRCS vs. the OGB.

Is this simply an updated Tegal Manor or will we see something new? Like a basement, which the original did not have? Maybe more than the partial second floor and up that the first had?

If its just a redo of the original, as I have the original, I can't say I'd be excited. But I would be excited if it was the original with some major new stuff.

NB - I appreciate that the 3.5 stats will be made available :D as I would not be interested in just a 4.0 version.
