Color me silly...
I got back from my trip and was posting from my home computer.. and realized I had an old folder of Ronin Arts pdfs.... this one was in there!
So, overview of topics.. there are three items discussed:
- defining the disconnect between combat ability {as expressed by hit points} and survivability {also expressed as hit point}
- A rule change to split the two into discrete mechanics, setting the stage for a 15th level fighter to be concerned about extreme weather conditions.
- How to implement this change in the game.
The mechanic is, for all intents, a modified wound point/vitality point system. Normal combat still strikes against HP, but non-combat stuff like falling off cliffs strike against the much lower wound points.
Using the rule would provide a much gritter world and inject an idea of 'realism' into the higher levels of play.
As to my opinion, if I wanted gritty I would pull out my copy of Ken Hood's Grim-n-Gritty {simplified} instead of using the proposed change.
