Tell me about those old 'zines

Now, I understand that the for awhile now Dungeon was the home to several Adventure Paths with a new 'chapter' in each issue of the most recent Dungeons. Those aren't the only adventures in those issues correct? There are other random adventures found along side of the Adventure Path issues?

Correct. Since we relaunched the magazine back in issue #114, there's been at least 3 adventures per issue. Generally, one of those is a chapter of an Adventure Path, but not always. Before #114, the number of adventures per issue was pretty fluid, with some issues having only one adventure and others having 5 or 6.

Yeah, being in upstate New York I don't think I can find a copy of Imagine. I couldn't even find any evidence of it on the net. But I'll repost the last part of my previous post case people over-read it since it was already back a couple posts by now:

Could you guys suggest some issues to me that had particular adventures that seemed interesting to you? It could help me pick out specific issues, instead of just wantonly grabbing ones blindly.

When you said old 'zines I thought you meant Zines, those old mimeograph early photocopier underground fan based works. Still have some fond memories of the salicious Grups zine.

For a sampling of Dragon pick up the Dragon Compendium (its great and not just because the only two articles I ever had published for Dragon are featured in it) and Dragon Ecologies. The Ecologies book focuses on some great monsters and has lots of material to inspire adventures and campaigns.

For Dungeon I recommend the following small sample of adventures as ones I have either ran or cannabalized for my own adventures (all 3.5):

#114 "Mad God's Key " -1st level adventure
#117 "Fallen Angel" - 4th level, for Eberron but could work in other places
#117-119- The Istivin: City of Shadows Campaign Arc c.11th level
#121 "The Styes" - 9th level adventure

Also, any of the Challange of Champions can be fun to run as is or as "tests" set up by would be patron's of adventuring parties.

and really there are lots, those are just a few that stand out in my memory, which is influenced, not doubt, by the first time I got a subscription.

Folks, if we're gonna talk about old 'zines, let's give it up for the grandaddy, A&E:

Alarum & Excursions has been around since 1975, is an APA 'zine, and has hosted many of the original luminaries of the gaming world. I still have a couple of banged-up copies from the late '70s and get a chuckle reading them. ;)

I loved Dragon in the early years, but my first 'gaming magazine love' has to be Ares. And The General would be a close second.

There was an interesting court decision last week that seems to have reversed the original decision a few years ago that made electronic distribution of old material so problematic. I'm hopeful this will play out in a way that makes compilations of the old magazines possible again.
