It is impossible to Plane Shift to these planes, or to even sense them (it would sort of be like trying to look at your own ears). However, if you traverse to the outer planes, you can "look back" at the material world and see it for how it truly is. Then you can shift to any one of the nine planes you want. Very few people know of the Nine Materials, and the handful of clerics, wizards, and mystics who do know are typically considered religious or arcane theorists.  There is only one means of traveling from material to material plane. There are bizarre creatures that exist on almost every plane (the only creatures to do so) called Portal Cows, or Gray Bulls.  They look something like a cross between an bull and a triceratops, but with slick, grey skin. Their blood has the strange property of phasing in and out of the material (making them harder to hit the more they bleed), and as soon as you kill one, the whole beast is instantly consumed in a flash as a tiny portal between material planes is opened.  If someone has the strength of mind or magic to force that tiny portal to open a little bit more--well then, you can go anywhere.</blockquote>
