"My bitch! Your stink is llike a fresh killed meat hung upon a tree Many are those who contend with more for your sake I laugh as I cast them down before me I rip their throats and consume the contents of their stomachs I lay their liver upon your mat as an offering and pile their skulls high to make your bed Long shall we run together, our whelps will make a mighty pack and together we shall hunt" - The Love Songs of a Gnoll Bard Gnolls are one of my favourite humanoids (after gnomes) and are a savage race of nomadic pack hunters whose culture revolves around killing and eating. Gnoll hunt other humanoids for the thrill of the hunt and a Gnolls most valued asset is meat. Usually Gnolls are a distinct Hyaena-like race living in Savanah regions however in one campaign I had Gnolls be the offspring of Wolf Garou (Natural Werewolfs) and Humans. They were the chosen of the Wolf Goddess and served somewhat as her Champions. As such they were treated as Nobility amongst the (other/lesser) humans. Anyway from the song My bitch! Your stink is llike a fresh killed meat hung upon a tree - is the gnoll equivalent of saying "My darling your are more precious then diamonds". See also I lay their liver upon your mat as an offering Many are those who contend with more for your sake - Gnolls males often contend with each other in savage fights (sometimes to the death but most often until the loser is too bloodied and withdraws) consume the contents of their stomachs - "I will consume the Contents of your stomach" is the worst insult you can give to a Gnoll, as it implies that they will be defeated and have everything they value taken from them. Moreover Gnoll parents will regurgitate food for their young (or for mates) and thus the curse even implies that you will take from those the Gnoll loves. our whelps will make a mighty pack and together we shall hunt Gnolls are suprisingly loving and gentle with their whelps. Parents will regurgitate food for members of their pack (being usually a mated Alpha pair their children - including adult children ). Hunting is a favourite activity (and right of passage) which makes Gnolls somewhat formidable adversaries. Related packs (ie the offpring of siblings) trade with each other and occasionally form togther for major hunts/raids. As Carrion eaters Gnolls live in what civilised humans might considered truely squalid and unhygenic conditions, but Gnolls are strong and robust enoguh to resist contagion.
