The current campaign I am DMing is in the Forgotten Realms, centered in Chondath, where the PCs are playing as Neutral / Evil adventurers working for the Chondathan government. Their various missions have included: liquidating a Zhentarim cell in the city of Shamph, working behind the scenes to inflame a trade war, occupying an old wizard's tower, operating as agents of a government organization known as the Unseen Hand - and coming soon, assassinations and more liquidations of trade rivals! I developed affiliations (PH2 tables) for multiple groups in the region, allowing the PCs to join various groups and play them against eachother, build alliances, etc. Agents of the Unseen Hand Sembian Human Wererat Rogue 1 Pitiful creature who was infected with lycanthropy and during one of his moon-induced rages, slaughtered his wife. When he awoke from his shape change, he had no recollection of his actions and believed his wife to have been murdered by another individual. Now he adventures in hopes of finding the man who killed his wife, even though he killed his wife all along. He is CN while human and CE when shapechanged. Think Memento. Calishite Human Rogue 4 Former member of a calishite thieves guild that he attempted to cross in hopes of securing more power. The plan failed and he was forced to flee the metropolis of Calimport. Now in Chondath, he adventures to build power, wealth and reputation in hopes of building his own organization and returning to Calimport in force, destroying his rivals and taking what he feels is rightly his. The character has a fascination with herbalism, poison-making, nature and botany and is actively pursuing the purchasing, creating and selling of poisons. Icewind Dale Half-Orc Barbarian 4 A massive half-orc from far to the North, he grew tired of living under the strict rules and codes of honour in his barbarian tribes. He exiled himself to the South where he hopes to gain fame and recognition as a master in battle and will use his strength and reknown to intimidate others to get what he wants. The character takes the ear of every humanoid he fells in battle and wears them on a necklace about his neck in order to instill fear in his enemies. Halruaan Human Diviner 4 Driven to study divination by his magocratic family in Halruaa (in an attempt to gain favour with the ruling Halruaans who practice Divination) and employed by the Halruaan government as a spy and information gatherer, he travelled north to Chondath on a rather loose mission. He is gauging the arcane potential of the Chondathans (not great since the Rotting War where a magical plague swept across the land) and is attempting to identify any Red Wizard enclaves, in hopes of watching them (due to their proximity to Halruaa) to see if they have any plans for his homeland (Thayans recently stole the plans and formulae to develop airships from the Halruaans). He is also adventuring to find lost pieces of lore, magic items, spells, etc. Chondathan Human Cleric of Bane 3 A tyrant in training, he left his Banite temple (the Temple of Dark Eyes) located in the city of Reth (just outside Chondath) because he grew tired of its leadership. He hopes to use his social skills and enchantments to gain followers and to erect his own temple to Bane. He intends to use this temple as a base of operations from which to strike out at his old parish in Reth and to secure the worship of all Banites in the region.
