Terry Pratchetts - The Colour of Magic [2008]

Cergorach

The Laughing One
I stumbled upon this by accident, and because I started reading the book (for the second time) last week, I watched it. Actually pretty fun, not 100% true to the book, they cut and modified a lot. Obviously due to time restraints and budgetary considerations. For example the Trolls in the tavern brawl are replaced by dwarfs, there are many more examples, but those would be spoilers ;-)

I like the actors, I like the decor. If you like the Discworld books, be sure to watch this miniseries. I think the books are better, but this is pretty good for a TV adaption.

If you watched it, what did you think

It was ok, and seemed to follow the books pretty well, but it was definately a bit hit and miss. Certain elements looked absolutely great - like Ahnk Morpork and the tower of art. Death was once again totally cool. However a lot of it just cheap; the luggage was a bit rubbish (it didn't seem at all homicidal!) and the dragons were dreadful.

The actors were also pretty hit and miss. Jeremy Irons made a great Patrician, and Tim Curry was excellent but David Jason was just plain wrong as Rincewind (although the scraggly beard was good!) and Sean Austin wasn't great as Twoflower.
