D&D 5E Testing Homebrew Resources

Do you mean like a short adventure that you might get off DriveThruRPG for free? If so, I'll read it and if it passes muster for me, I'll adjust difficulty of encounters as necessary and throw it at my players. No testing, really. Unless you consider that as a test of the material before using it in a future campaign.

Is that answering your question? Or do you have examples of other "resources" that you are specifically wondering about?

I was just asking for a general opinion on how much other people think homebrew resources should be tested, i.e. I made a custom class, how many times should I playtest it.

For something like a homebrew monster, I just run it and am prepared to adapt on the fly if I screwed up.

For something that wills stick around like a powerful and complex magic item or a new spell, I try to break it and may ask on forums about it.

For something like a homebrew class that will have a large impact on players I try to build and abuse it at several different levels (including multiclassing) and definitely run it past forums and other DMs.

And all of that is true but not complete. I'm currently running 13th Age (a very hackable game) with a bunch of mature adults who will accept "this is too powerful" or "this is too weak" and I also will from them, and since we know we can adapt during play the needs to be perfect and foresee all interactions prior to it hitting play aren't as dire.
