From planetfortress.com Team Fortress 2 Information Tuesday, April 29, 2003, 07:15 | The Warthog | Comments Shacknews has a good compilation of information that has just come out from under NDA's about Half-Life 2's engine. From that information, we learn a bit about Team Fortress 2 because, "TF2 will be using the HL2 engine, once they decided to use the HL2 engine they stopped giving information as they didn't want to blow anything relating to it. TF2 will 'arrive soon'." TF2 will be using the HL2 engine, once they decided to use the HL2 engine they stopped giving information as they didn't want to blow anything relating to it. TF2 will 'arrive soon'. ALL objects in the game world are affected by the physics Drivable vehicles in both single and multiplayer Engine technology scales based on your system specs For Half-Life: Multiplayer is important and multiple game modes will be supported* The editor is called 'Hammer' and will be included, sounds like a complete development environment for maps, mods etc. And previous information that we posted about the Valve Source engine on April 24, 2003. While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended. The Valve Source engine uses particle systems so things like dust are visible and dynamic explosions so gas, fire, and smoke are volumetric. The Valve Source physics engine uses a modified version of the Havok engine (used in Dues Ex 2) to give every item in the world wieght and functionality. AI is extremely intelligent. Characters now have muscular system on top of skeletal system, making their movements more agile and lifelike. * Note: There are no facts at this time regarding multiplayer other than it is in, and there will be multiple modes. Realizing a large portion of Valve's success comes from mods, we will most certainly see a number of them produced and supported by Valve directly (as indicated by the quote). It is not known if Team Fortress 2 (or something like TFC) will be used in conjunction with Half-Life.
