Thanks ENWorld

One of my best friends introduced me to PnP RPGs in graduate school, not longer after we had met. We eventually lived together for a few years, and I think of him as a brother. Plus, I still have the original email he sent me that kicked it all off:

A little bird told me that you're a potential gamer. The D&D group I play with is looking for another player. We play on Wednesday evenings.
Interested?…
Turns out the answer was "yes."

I've seen it, I'll vouch. ;)

Then I'd like to change my answer and thank Rel's wife too.

In all seriousness, I should actually thank my own wife. It never dawned on me before, but I may not have gotten back into D&D if it wasn't for her.

When I found out about 3.0 (before we were married), I made some off hand comment about D&D (it had been years since I played 2e) and she asked me, "What's D&D?" She's very hot, very smart, very popular, nominated for Home Coming Queen, was Vice President of her High School & President of her Junior College, and was far from being a gamer. Thinking that she'd think I'm a dork, I gulped and gave her a quick description about D&D. Her response was something like, "That sounds interesting, can I try it out?"

That gave me a reason to get the 3.0 core books and Sunless Citadel. She's been playing with me ever since.

J.R.R. Tolkein, E.R. Burroughs, C.S. Lewis, and R.E. Howard for lighting the fantasy heroic bug in my young (at the time) heart.

Gary Gygax for giving that flame a chance to grow and express itself.

Ryan Dancy for the OGL, which again fanned those flames now that I am so much older.

Thanks to Eric Noah, for starting his rumours site which I accidentally discovered in 1999 (I think!) and which led to a resurgence in gaming and a whole lot of new friends.

Special thanks to Piratecat & Sagiro for their storyhours which showed what a campaign could be like, and their friendship ever since.

Cheers!

That would have to be my friend Andy's older brother who said "sure" when I asked him if I could borrow the D&D Basic Set (the one with the cool dragon about to fry a wizard and fighter) that he got for Christmas and promptly put under the tree as "lost"

And to Gary....for actually talking to me and my geeky friend Jim all the way back at Gencon 12 when we went up to say "hi"

To my big brother Tod (Abdul Alhazred on these boards) for bringing DnD home from boy scouts and teaching his little sister to play.

Life hasn't been the same since, and I couldn't be happier. He can be my DM forever.
