This happens to me occasionally... and just happened again today. I had started formulating the first stages of an upcoming adventure a few weeks ago. In short, the party had a wind elf (from Bow & Blade) that was orpaned. I thought that I would flesh out the homeland of the elemental elves, explore her heritage a little, and perhaps create some reference to the fate of her parents to add some personal involvement. I set that basic seed of a game and expected it to develop on its own, as it often did. But the more I thought about it, I never found a direction that felt right to develop this adventure, so it stayed undeveloped, even after I turned my attention to fleshing it out. I had pretty much decided to settle on a pretty basic outline, when while I was attending to the mundane task of looking for elemental monsters to sprinkle into the game, I ran upon a monster description that was the missing element that set my mind into motion. In Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary, there was a fossegrim template. I won't bore you with the details, but to make a long story short, the concept tied together a bunch of disparate ideas I was working on and made them made sense together. Anyone else often have experiences like this often? Any tips to offer in finding the missing puzzle peices? I think the lesson I learned this time is that one idea you have that may make your adventure complete may not be in the topic related resources (products/threads/etc/.), but more likely to be in an unrelated place. So if you get stuck, kick back and read something not directly related.
