Ancient Mother Among many cultures, elders are consulted for their wisdom. The experience that they’ve paid for in gray hairs and wrinkled brows is utterly invaluable to the younger generation. However, as time has robbed them of the strength, most elders serve with the mind and voice. But there are some elders that still have enough strength to wield sword, axe, or bow in defense of their people, and often they are willing to sacrifice themselves in war so that the younger generation might thrive. First developed among the priestess of goddesses of family, hearth, or protection, the path of the Ancient Mother is one that allows the elder women of the community to lead in action as well as deed. While they are no longer able to dodge blows with such ease, or swing their swords so hard, Ancient Mothers possess a wiry strength and resiliency that allows them to bear more than their share of punishment. These women are protectors and defenders of their “children.” They also possess extraordinary perception, which means, like mothers the world over, they are nearly impossible to fool. Most Ancient Mothers are priestesses, though some are paladins, druids, or rangers. Fighters, monks and, rogues are more rare, and are usually multiclassed with one of the above. There are few arcane casters among the Ancient Mothers. The majority of Ancient Mothers stay with their community, but priestesses of a goddess that also includes travel or wilderness in her portfolio (halfling goddesses in particular), or who may be the last of their people can be found adventuring. These wandering Ancient Mothers seek to spread their life’s wisdom to all whom they meet, regarding the entire world as their children. Hit Dice: d8.
